TORAH

"YHWH is the creator of all things. By the power of His word all things are held together. What madness to take those very things that He holds in existence and to choose them over Him and to use them to sin against Him." JP - The Way Biblical Fellowship.

Moses had lived 120 years, which is 3 periods of 40 years each. Forty is the number that symbolises trails, testing, and transition. Moses' life was neatly divided into 40 year periods. At the age of 40 He figured out his identity, killed an Egyptian and was forced to flee to Midian. From 40 till 80 he was a shepherd in training. At age 80 he became the shepherd that lead the Israelites out of Egypt. The last 40 years were definitely times of testing and trails. The humblest man on earth began by submitting to YHWH's will. Humble like a child.

Note Moses would not see the Promise Land but his children or grandchildren would - Torah is not all about looking inwardly, it is about other people. Step back from yourself - it is about what you can give to others, to help make the world a better place - seeing the bigger picture. Being slat, being light. Religious ideas of mysticism all look inwardly, and is all about self. Torah directs our attention outward - we are to make a positive impact on our communities. We especially look out for the poor and the vulnerable.

"Deuteronomy 31:3 World English Bible (WEB)
3 Yahweh your God himself will go over before you. He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. Joshua will go over before you, as Yahweh has spoken."
YHWH always does what He says - we should bear this in mind when we read His promises and the end of times and what is to come. If YHWH does not go before us, we are not to go. But if He goes before us, we can be assured He will clear the way for us to follow.

Image result for sun and the moonThe sages often compare Moses and Joshua to the sun and the moon. Moses was like the sun sun because, as you cannot look at it and it can burn you, the people of Israel struggled to live up to Moses' outstanding righteousness - do bear in mind he did literally shine like the sun at one point. As the sun sets on Moses' days on earth, Joshua rises to prominence. Like moon, he produces light, but it is not as intense as the sun. Therefore, it is much easier to look upon it and gaze at all the patterns and craters on his surface. So as the people of Israel are more successful being lead by Joshua because, just like Yeshua, we can relate to Him and follow Him easily. He was completely submitted to YHWH's will.

Be strong and of good courage. Joshua received two critically important spiritual gifts. The first of these gifts was chazak often translated as strength. But the strength Moses is talking about is not self-generated or contained strength. It is not strength in isolation. The Hebrew verb means to tie tightly or bind fast. The kind of strength Moses prophetically declared over Joshua therefore was a strength derived from being tightly bound to YHWH and being bound fast to the Torah. The second gift bestowed prophetically upon Joshua on this day was ematz, often translated as good courage. The Hebrew verb however means to have alertness of mind, resoluteness of spirit, and swiftness of foot.
Joshua is given to us to establish the Messianic pattern. His strength was to come from the fact that his will was completely subordinated to YHWH's will. Just like Yeshua.
"Joshua 1:7-9 World English Bible (WEB)
7 Only be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. 9 Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for Yahweh your God[a] is with you wherever you go.”

Every 7th year - the year of the sh'mittah - every man, woman and child were to travel to Jerusalem for the Feast of Sukkot, and to hear (sh'ma) the reading of the Torah. Doing so assures that every generation and every "foreigner" engrafted in will have the opportunity to make the choice to choose life.

The "you" in verse 11 is singular, you shalt read it. The only singular person held with the reputability of calling all the people together to read the Torah, would be the king - our King is Yeshua - He will read Torah to us. The Torah goes forth from Zion in the Millennium.
"Isaiah 2:2-4 World English Bible (WEB)
2 It shall happen in the latter days, that the mountain of Yahweh’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains,
    and shall be raised above the hills;
    and all nations shall flow to it.
3 Many peoples shall go and say,
    “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of Yahweh,
    to the house of the God of Jacob;
    and he will teach us of his ways,
    and we will walk in his paths.”
For the law shall go out of Zion,
    and Yahweh’s word from Jerusalem.
4 He will judge between the nations,
    and will decide concerning many peoples.
    They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
    and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
    neither shall they learn war any more."
"Zechariah 14:16 World English Bible (WEB)
16 It will happen that everyone who is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahweh of Armies, and to keep the feast of booths."
"Micah 4:1-2 World English Bible (WEB)
4 But in the latter days,
    it will happen that the mountain of Yahweh’s temple will be established on the top of the mountains,
    and it will be exalted above the hills;
    and peoples will stream to it.
2 Many nations will go and say,
    “Come! Let’s go up to the mountain of Yahweh,
    and to the house of the God of Jacob;
    and he will teach us of his ways,
    and we will walk in his paths.”
For the law will go out of Zion,
    and Yahweh’s word from Jerusalem;"

YHWH knows our hearts. He knew that Israel will still be disobedient.
"Deuteronomy 31:14-16 World English Bible (WEB)
14 Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, your days approach that you must die. Call Joshua, and present yourselves in the Tent of Meeting, that I may commission him.”
Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the Tent of Meeting.
15 Yahweh appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud, and the pillar of cloud stood over the Tent’s door. 16 Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers. This people will rise up and play the prostitute after the strange gods of the land where they go to be among them, and will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them."
Why did not Joshua - or any of us - to be RESULT ORIENTED, or RESULT DRIVEN. We are to be obedient - people who are just obedient out of love, not needing to see results. We are not to do mitzvot - or ministry - for the satisfaction of seeing results.
Also, look at the matter of fact language used here about Moses - "oh yeah, and you are going to die so call Joshua and go to the Tent". Can you imagine most people's reaction to that statement? How would you feel if this was you? Would you praise Him knowing that you have tried to serve Him with all your heart or will you freak out, knowing you have been compromising and sinning willingly.
If you think about it, it seems to be not the sort of goodbye you would be expecting. YHWH's tells him that he is going to die soon and all his life work is going to come tumbling down, that when the people enter the land they will chase after other gods.

This is Moses' worst nightmare come true - why not die now, because there must be a reason for Moses to do something. This world is not a place for congratulations, while you are alive, this world is all about serving YHWH. Whilst he is still alive there is one thing he could do. It must have been extremely heartbreaking for both Moses and God that all this 41 years together overcoming will come to nothing. YHWH is heart-wrenched at this moment of what Moses has done and that fact he is to die. Joshua probably shared this same heartbreak.
Moses will teach Israel a song so that they will recall YHWH when things get desperate - but this is only a teaser. Stay tuned for next Saturday for the Song of Moses!

There is a cycle.
Element A: The people abandon their Elohim and chase after other gods.
Element B: YHWH hides His face.
Element C: The people remember their God, they sat it is because God is not with us that these things have happened.
Element D - YHWH continues to hide His face.
Why does YHWH hide His face?
Because the people went back to element B, they did not look to element A and the reason why YHWH his His face. This was not repentance, it was a half-backed act of self-pity, that is why YHWH continued to hide His face.

The separation we experience is not due to His leaving us - but due to our departure from Him!

We are commanded to memorise the song that we will look at next week.
"Deuteronomy 31:21 World English Bible (WEB)
21 It will happen, when many evils and troubles have come on them, that this song will testify before them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten out of the mouths of their descendants; for I know their ways and what they are doing today, before I have brought them into the land which I promised them.”

We are to not be evil in YHWH's sight. The Hebrew word is ra, which, in its verbal root, means to break to pieces. To fail to perform that which you were created for, to oppose YHWH's will and not fulfil your purpose. Water-less cloud.

The whoring that YHWH is predicting, is still going on now in the later days. It is tragic how far this world that claims to be Christian has fallen from God and His ways.

PROPHETS AND NEW TESTAMENT

Hosea 14  is thematically connected to this Torah portion because it is the future event coming to pass when God says to Moses that Israel will depart from the Way. But YHWH obviously is hurt and does not want this to happen at all. We can see throughout Hosea and the prophets, that the tonality in God's voice is one to heart-break and anguish. This is because He has no peace. God got that peace when Yeshua gave His last breath on the cross for our sins. All we have to do is to act like the prodigal son, the father is waiting for us to repent and we come back to His ways, God will rejoice.

Who is Asshur in verse 3? Due to what it says in Genesis 10, Nimrod's second name is Asshur as well. Could this be referring to the return of Nimrod/Asshur/Apollo in the Last Days? He will return as the Jewish Messiah and he will defeat the false Antichrist appearing to be Messiah ben David. He does not offer salvation, but death and entirely damnation.

"Hosea 14:4 New King James Version (NKJV)
4 “I will heal their backsliding,
I will love them freely,
For My anger has turned away from him.
5 I will be like the dew to Israel;
He shall [b]grow like the lily,
And [c]lengthen his roots like Lebanon.
6 His branches shall [d]spread;
His beauty shall be like an olive tree,
And his fragrance like Lebanon.
7 Those who dwell under his shadow shall return;
They shall be revived like grain,
And [e]grow like a vine.
Their [f]scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon.
8 “Ephraim shall say, ‘What have I to do anymore with idols?’
I have heard and observed him.
I am like a green cypress tree;
Your fruit is found in Me.”
9 Who is wise?
Let him understand these things.
Who is prudent?
Let him know them.
For the ways of the Lord are right;
The righteous walk in them,

But transgressors stumble in them."
The word branches is Natsar. A word used to identify those that believe in Jesus and do His commandments.
We are Ephraim. YHWH is talking to us here. Verse 8 the Ephraim awaking when we return from the idols of Egypt to YHWH.

This is a summary to the Fall Feast days which represents the Second Coming of Yeshua.
"Joel 2:15 New King James Version (NKJV)
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, (Yom Teruah)
Consecrate a fast, (Yom Kippur)
Call a sacred assembly; (Sukkot)

The road of Emmaus  is the road we must take to understand the Scriptures. We should have a heart-burn for Him when we read the Torah and the Old Testament because they all wrote about Yeshua.
"27 Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself." Luke 24:27
As we have seen this year, Yeshua is revealed all over the Torah. He is the Torah. So many references get revealed to me about Him in the Torah, i could not possibly mention all of them in the blogs. It is very exciting each week at how we discover the Messiah at the foundation of His word.

Romans 1 has a semantic field of fellowship. Paul is stresses here that we are one body in Messiah despite us being in the diaspora.

Paul when he says in Romans 10 "faith comes by hearing" the Hebrew would have been shema, which does not just mean let sound-waves enter into your ears. It means to respond accordingly to those sound-waves and act. This is the whole point of the Song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32.

I just love this verse:
"Romans 12:21 World English Bible (WEB)
21 Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

"Philippians 1:27-28 World English Bible (WEB)
27 Only let your way of life be worthy of the Good News of Christ, that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your state, that you stand firm in one spirit, with one soul striving for the faith of the Good News; 28 and in nothing frightened by the adversaries, which is for them a proof of destruction, but to you of salvation, and that from God."
This is thematically connected to Deuteronomy 31:
"Deuteronomy 31:6 World English Bible (WEB)
6 Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for Yahweh your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

This may seem like hearsay to those that do not know the scriptures.
"work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Philippians 2:12
If we know what faith really means - a verb and not a metaphysical belief of the mind - then this makes sense. Of course we do not gain salvation be just doing Torah, faith SHOULD LEAD us to to doing what is right. That is want saves us.
Shalom
