TORAH
Miketz means (at the end, or in conclusion.) This Torah Portion might be prophetic to the events at the end of time.
Hebrew play on words with "pharaoh" and "cow".
The 7 years of famine could also refer to 7 years of the 20 year Tribulation will have abundance and famine. Famine on both food and the Word of God.
Well known food producing companies are today in a period of famine.
Events in Genesis 41 is a reversal of Genesis 37. Joseph comes out of pit and regains his status. Yeshua resurrects from the tomb and gains status and victory over Death.
Mentuhotep II or III and Jacob become father figures in Joseph's life. Interesting how Joseph comes out of prison (tomb) shaves and puts his garment on (gains authority) and comes to pharaoh (coming to sit at the Right Hand of YHVH.)
But Mentuhotep also represents the ruler of his own world - Ha'Satan (Wadjet the snake goddess of Egyptian royalty.) He gives what Joseph loses because Joseph walked righteously with YHVH.
Dream interpretations repeated like in Genesis 37.
"And behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness." Genesis 41:19.
The Hebrew words describe the 7 poor and fat cows as yefote toar. Rachel is described the same way. Joseph also is described like this.
"They fed in the marsh grass." Genesis 41:18
It also means "they grazed with their brothers." Reversal in Genesis 37.
The poor, ugly, gaunt cows are described as racote. The same word is used to describe Leah. Homoneim.
The Leah cows eat up the Rachel cows and no one knew about it. Like in Genesis 29:13 when Jacob never knew at the end of the 1st 7 years he will sleep with Leah thinking he had worked for Rachel.
" And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things."
It it be that Mentuhotep needed to have a vizier so someone can help him keep the nomarchs content, after the resent Egyptian dark age civil war called the 1st Intermediate Period.
Will food shortages be something that is going to happen in the Tribulation and some of God's people like Joseph is going to help keep and store food?
Mentuhotep calls Joseph "a man whom the Spirit of God is." Daniel is referred as the same because they both interpret dreams to a pagan monarch.
Both Daniel and Joseph reveal that they do not interpret the dreams but YHWH. Daniel after the interpretation, becomes second in command to Nebuchadnezzar. Identical in Joseph's case.
Mentuhotep's ring is a symbol of authority given to Joseph. He is also given fine linen. God's people and Yeshua in Heaven as well as David wore and will wear fine linen. White is the combination of all colours (Joseph's rainbow coat) and colour represents personality and character. It is God's colour (white) because He is all the personalities. Also represents purity and cleanliness.
Joseph's visiership is a foreshadowing of Solomon's coronation and Yeshua's second coming.
This is the reason why so many foreigners came into Egypt during this time in the Middle Kingdom because if Joseph and the great famine.
It says famine happened in ALL the earth. Is this what is going to happen in the future?
Amazing archaeological discoveries have been made about the Israelites in Egypt. See this great documentary called Patterns of Evidence Exodus.
Bahr Yussef (Joseph) is a real water canal that was man made during the time of the 11th or 12th Dynasty periods. It is a canal still in use today that diverts water from the Nile and into a very fertile oasis in western Egypt called the Faiyum basin. It seems that this was made in the 7 years of plenty so Joseph as Pharaoh's vizier, built so in this area in Egypt can be protected from the famine and will have plenty of food. It is in this area where many of the 11th and 12th Dynasty kings set up shop and finally regained full control over all 42 proveniences or nomes throughout Egypt that were at war with each other not too long ago. It seems that it was the famine that weakened these powerful nomarchs and by the help of Joseph (Egyptian: Zaphnath-Paaneah) Egypt was prospering during what many call the Renaissance of Ancient Egypt.
The 10 brothers that meet Joseph (Yeshua) is the Northern Kingdom in the Greater Exodus. But it may also show a picture of the 10 tribes going out into the nations which is what Egypt biblical represents.

Ways into looking into Joseph's actions when his brothers arrive:
- He will take a role as a deceiver and will hide his true identity.
- His actions will inflict more harm than good, on his already broken father Jacob.
- Joseph cruelly plays on his brother's minds. He will wield the powers of his new position, taking one of the brothers hostage (Simeon) and Benjamin to ransom him. Joseph will treat his brothers as royal diplomats. He will trap his own innocent little brother in an elaborate scheme of theft. The kid must of terrified.
Joseph inflicts on his brothers the same treatment they inflicted upon him.
Joseph's brothers say that they are honest. Therefore means the bad reports of Joseph were true.
Joseph puts his brothers in prison (pit) for three days which is exactly what the brothers did to Joseph before. You reap what you sow.
'Do this and live." Joseph is giving a picture of the Messiah.'Do this is memory of me."
Joseph represents the 7 good cows which provide for the 7 gaunt cows (brothers).
Reconstruction of a large statue of a powerful official member of state found in a small pyramid tomb Goshen/Avaris. It is unnamed, but some believe this is no one but Joseph. |
The brothers recognise this and admit their actions and repent.
Reuben offered to make it right for the loss of Joseph and if Benjamin dies or goes too.
At first, Jacob did not entirely trust the brothers until later he has full serenity to return to Egypt.
The brothers now recognise that God is in control.
Money was put in the sacks of the brothers instead of food.
Why does Joseph have such an interest in Benjamin? He is his full blood brother.
Who does Benjamin represent? The Messianic Jews who understand Yeshua.
Jacob becomes protective over Benjamin. He was born near the house of bread (Bethlehem.) Rachel named him son of sorrow/sin (Benoni). But Jacob named him son of my right hand (Benjamin.)
Yeshua in first coming was a suffering servant (son of sorrow) and in the second coming He will be King (son of mt Right Hand.)
Benjamin was not involved in the conspiracy to sell Joseph. Paints a picture of Messiah who is entirely innocent. Benjamin is locked up for something he was not guilty of.
Like Joseph, will we weep in the chambers (Petra) for our brothers still outside during the Tribulation?
Joseph is revealing himself to his brothers during a feast. Foreshadows Yeshua at the Last Supper revealing that He is that Passover Lamb and the Unleavened Bread and the wine.
When the cup was hidden in Benjamin's pack and Joseph catches up to them, is a repeat of the taking of Laban's idols and Rachel. "Whoever it is found with, let them die." Similar with Jacob's accusation of not realising it will ultimately affect Rachel in the long come. In this case, the cup is found with Benjamin but he does not die. Maybe because it was not him that stole the cup.
It is not words that is important, it is the intent behind the words.
Joseph represents Yeshua. He knew His brethren but His brethren did not know Him (Road to Emmaus,) talks about Joseph.
The 10 brothers got their share and money back for their selling of Joseph. In this moment, they knew they have sinned against YHVH.
The cup of Joseph (Yehsua) Last Super, the cup of Yeshua's blood. Connection to Benjamin?
Joseph became second in charge in Egypt because he knew all 70 languages because of an angel of Yahweh taught him in the Book of Jasher.
Joseph got a gentile bride. Yeshua's bride comes from gentiles too.
Joseph was apparently 30 years old before service to Mentuhotep. Yeshua started His 3 and a half year ministry at 30.
Benjamin finds out about the stars and their meaning in Joseph's dream with an advanced ancient technological device in the Book of Jasher. Born near Bethlehem.
Benjamin has a device like the Antikythera Mechanism to discover who Joseph truly was.
Joseph's wife Asenath means "God supporting life or lifting up life and His covenant."
A literary parallel connects Benjamin's descent into Egypt with the earlier descent of Joseph.
"And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt." Genesis 37:25
"And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:." Genesis 43:11
The cup, just like Laban's idols are used for divination.
Joseph's Egyptian name Zaphnath-Paaneah means: "God's desire for His house to speak. Lifting up life, with a path by the sign. Openly revealing understanding that secures a weapon or action to protect with grace and mercy. In short, it means decipher of secrets. This is one argument they use to say that Joseph is Imhotep who was know to be very wise and like a god.
If a time of famine comes, we should prepare.
Yeshua's first coming means He is Messiah Son of Joseph. Yeshua's step-father's name was Joseph to those that did not get it.
Ben had 5 times as much servants. The numerical value of the letter hey is 5, and its meaning means "revelation of grace and mercy, and what comes from the Spirit." Do away with your past.
I find it interesting how the 10 brothers that conspired against Joseph got the exact same punishment in which they inflicted on Joseph. This is the beginning of redemption and repentance for a great sin of selling their own brother away (breaks thou shalt not kill.) I find also the connection and trust Judah especially has to protect Benjamin with his life so he can show Joseph brotherly love to his own full blood brother.
Joseph wanted to find out where his brothers were coming from. Do not worry about the issue. Understand the full context and story going on. It is about how they feel. Understand how others think and feel. This is what Joseph was trying to do.
PROPHETS AND NEW TESTAMENT
Joshua starts off with dirty clothes (Joseph in prison) and is later with fine garments (Joseph exalted next to Mentuhotep.)
Is the Joshua in Zechariah the Messiah? i do not think so, because it describes him with sin.
Last Days significance. Life of Joseph will be repeated in the End Times to the Two Witnesses (Ephraim and Judah.)
Yeshua feeds 5000. Immediate connection to when Joseph feeds the whole land of Egypt when the 7 years of famine comes. Will a same miracle happen in future?
5 breads given to 5000. 5 servants were serving Benjamin at Joseph's feast.
Eating of bread, gives life from famine. Yeshua is the bread and the Word.
Yeshua went to celebrate Hanukkah.
"And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication (Hanukkah), and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch." John 10:22-23
Yeshua read Torah portions on Shabbat. This is why i am spending my time doing these blogs for you readers.
"And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read." Luke 4:16
People are saying this is Joseph's son. YHWH really was putting a spot light on that fact. He knew the Jews that a Messiah will be Joseph's son.
When Yeshua was in the synagogue on the Sabbath in Luke 4, i bet the portion in the Torah reading was this one Miktez, week 10.
Elisha sent a famine.
Yeshua was probably smiling at the Pharisees in His heart saying "good job for standing up and being overly zealous to rededicate my Word and Temple so i can come to save you during Hanukkah today."
We are to walk righteously in His ways and blessing will come ten fold. In Joseph's story, e endured through the refiners fire and overcame his storms. He never knew the rewards and outcomes he would receive for doing this. All he knew, the right thing to do is serve YHWH. We must humble ourselves as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto Him and submit, saying that His will to be done only in our lives.
Shalom
